Thank you to all the CoreNet volunteers who were on site at the Habitat Blitz Build on May 3rd!
We had beautiful weather for the first day of the build. When we arrived, the foundations were already poured and capped, but no walls were up. By the end of the day, we had transformed one of the townhouse complexes - for example, all of the exterior and "parti" walls (walls separating the townhouse units) were framed and up, doors were cut into the exterior walls, basement staircases were installed, scaffolding was erected around the exterior and the complex was ready for the second level floor to be hoisted in place by a huge crane. An enormous amount of work was completed in just one day! This office worker is still recovering from the aches and pains of a day on a construction site!
We met with the Santiago family - Emma and her daughter Sheryl - who were on site volunteering, along with many of their new neighbours. They were very excited to see their home in progress and are looking forward to moving out of their west end basement apartment into their new townhouse this summer. The Volk Way setting is second to none - the townhomes are surrounded by trees, a park, and a commmunity centre with ice rinks and an outdoor pool. Shopping malls and churches are a short walk away.
The Habitat organization has been wonderful to work with here in Toronto and we look forward to seeing the completed homes!/p>
