CoreNet Global Member Profile -- Gordon Driedger
Gordon Driedger Encourages CorpRE Leadership & Volunteerism
As Vice President of Real Estate and Engineering at Sobeys, Inc., a large food store
chain in Canada, Gordon "Gord" Driedger must recruit qualified corporate real estate
executives with the technical skills and established relationships integral to success
in the industry. He is among the increasing number of corporate real estate executives
who recognize that CoreNet Global's products and services help to meet the business needs
of members' companies. Gord explains, "For this reason, CoreNet is an important organization
from the perspective of training and development. CoreNet provides both technical training
through its education programs and networking opportunities to enhance the expertise of
corporate real estate professionals."
Gord emphasizes that member-driven organizations like CoreNet Global are dependent upon volunteers
to meet their goals. "If everyone was able to give just a little bit of time, the organization and
the industry would be very well served," he remarks. "Clearly we are all time-stressed and it is
difficult to free up time to volunteer to industry organizations but I think it is very important."
As a respected leader in the industry, Gord formerly chaired the Halton Hills Committee of Adjustment,
a committee appointed by the Council for the Town of Halton Hills to deal with minor variances and
land divisions within the town. He is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP), and a member of the
Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP), the national professional organization for community and urban planners.
Joining CoreNet in 1995, Gord has served as a member of the board and, this year, is the Vice President
of Education. In addition, he completed the MCR program in October 2001.
Gord lives in Toronto with his wife, ten year old daughter, and eight year old son.
Originally from Kitchener in Southwest Ontario, he moved to the city just prior to completing
his education at the University of Waterloo. He enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf.
