Background of the Continuing Education Requirement
At the formation of CoreNet Global in 2001, all designees in North America with a designation award date of 2002 and prior had a deadline date of 31 December 2005 to provide evidence of continuing education and submit a renewal application.
The continuing education requirement was extended to MCR designees residing in Europe, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, and South America in April 2006. This initial renewal cycle is 1 January 2006 through 31 December 2009 for designees with a graduation date of 2005 and prior. MCR graduates from 2006 forward have the traditional three year renewal cycle.
What are the requirements to remain a designee in good standing?
To remain an active designee in good standing, a corporate real estate professional must:
1) Participate as an instructor, case presenter or a student in a minimum of 50 hours of continuing education related to career enhancement or job performance during each renewal cycle; and
2) Submit an application for renewal with appropriate fee payment by the cycle's deadline.
Why is there a continuing education requirement to maintain the designation after it is awarded?
Continuing professional development (CPD) activities are important to stay abreast of new information and business models in a constantly changing global marketplace. To keep the MCR designation in good standing, a designee must participate in educational activities specific to a renewal cycle.
What is the MCR designation renewal cycle?
The three year renewal cycle begins following receipt of the MCR official completion letter and ends three years' later on 31 December. Upon approval of the application, the next cycle starts on 1 January.
What types of programs satisfy the continuing education requirement?
The MCR Designation is distinguished from other certifications in providing essential skills to deal with urgent and critical business issues in corporate real estate. CoreNet Global's Senior Leader Certificate Program is highly recommended to MCR designees as the next step to provide the critical leadership skills needed to position themselves for a greater role in the organization. All EDP Seminars and CoreNet Global Summits provide 16 CPD credits each.
Other real estate or business-related educational programs that offer career enhancement or support job performance in commercial real estate qualify for CPD credit. Additionally, courses to maintain state licenses earn credit. Educational formats include classroom, online, webinars, correspondence, summit sessions or chapter presentations. Only programs of at least one hour of duration qualify for credit.
A certificate of completion or a transcript to document all learning activities conducted outside of CoreNet Global must accompany the MCR Designation Renewal Application.

How is CPD credit calculated?
One hour of educational programming equals one credit of continuing professional development (1 CPD).
What are the options for a designee who does not have company support in maintaining the designation?
Local chapter learning programs, webinars, and online courses are recommended.
An MCR designee may earn four (4) CPD credits for each book read for the purpose of improving job performance. A book report must accompany the application for renewal. The book report template is provided for your convenience.

What if a designee cannot reach the required CPD goal by the renewal deadline?
If a designee falls short of reaching the minimum number of credits to satisfy a renewal cycle, a one-year extension is available. The application for extension must be submitted on or before 1 December of the deadline year. During the extension, an MCR must make up the deficit CPD credits from the prior cycle. A nominal processing fee of US$ 65 is payable with the application for the extension. When 50 CPD credits have been reached during the extension period, an Application for MCR Renewal with fee payment and attached documentation must be submitted by the deadline of 31 December of the extended year.
What happens if a designee does not submit an application by the renewal deadline?
Three things will happen. The designee will be:
Notified in writing that certification is suspended
Prohibited from using the MCR designation
Excluded in any listing of MCR designees in CoreNet Global publications and website
Is it possible to recover the MCR designation once it has been lost through failure to meet the maintenance requirements?
To regain the MCR designation, an executive must:
Accumulate a total of 50 CPD credits in continuing education for each missed three-year cycle since the last renewal date, with 16 of the 50 credits earned by attending a self-selected EDP class or a CoreNet Global Summit
Submit the Application for Renewal with the reinstatement box checked
Pay a reactivation fee of US $500 for each three-year period missed
