Tuesday 30 October 2007

Option 1: Changing Faces - Places of Today, Faces of Tomorrow
The Atlantic Station project is one of the nation's largest and most highly publicized mixed-use urban redevelopments. The 138-acre site, the largest remediated brownfield redevelopment in the United States, is the former home of the Atlantic Steel plant. Upon completion, the Atlantic Station project will feature 12 million sq. ft. (1,116,000 sq. m.) of residences, office retail, hotels and restaurants as well as 11 acres of open space, creating a vibrant live, work and play community.

Situated at the crossroads of two of the region's most traveled interstates, I-75 and I-85, the Atlantic Station development is a model for smart growth. The central location, the thoughtful site design and the incorporation of alternative transportation modes foster a pedestrian-oriented environment that benefits the region by promoting a methodology for improving Atlanta's travel patterns.

All 138 acres of the site are developed according to environmentally sound principles and feature certified LEED silver and gold buildings. The neighborhood also operates a clean-fueled transit shuttle system between Atlantic Station and MARTA.

Buckhead
Option 2: Changing Faces - BUCKHEAD -
High Heels, High Rise, High Living
The Buckhead community of Atlanta is one the most unique sections of the city and is known nationally for its strong and successful breadth of commercial, retail, residential and dining alternatives. Over the last decade, this area historically recognized for its neighborhoods of beautiful estates, rolling hills and wooded lands has experienced significant vertical growth along its spine - the world-famous Peachtree Road. A booming skyline along Peachtree now hosts luxurious office, hotel and residential towers reaffirming the area as one of Atlanta's top choices for Class A office users, visitors and residents. Buckhead has approximately 11,800,000 sq. ft. (1,097,400 sq. m.) of office space, more than 5,000 hotel rooms, 1,400 retail outlets including the shopping mecca of the Southeast - Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza, 200 dining places, 21,600 multifamily units and 16,300 individual homes. The newly transformed Peachtree Road (Boulevard) will enhance a live, work and play environment along with over 2,000,000 sq. ft. (186,000 sq. m.) of newly constructed office space, retail and luxury high rise condominiums. Take a tour of the most well-known and exceptional area of Atlanta.

Option 3: Changing Faces - Collaborative Minds,
Bodies and Souls to Shape a Better World
There is an older, quieter area of Atlanta that is taking on a new face and a new energy and is contributing in making our World a better place to live. This area is composed of bright minds, new ideas and innovative thinking. The Clifton Community Partnership, a joint venture between Emory University and Cousins Properties, is creating a framework for local residents, employers, employees, businesses and local governments to work together to foster a healthy living-learning-working environment and to improve the quality of life throughout the community. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is Emory's neighbor whose mission is to promote health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease, injury and disability. CDC seeks to accomplish its mission by working with partners throughout the nation and the world. Emory and the CDC have long cooperated and collaborated on medical research and the sharing of personnel.

On this tour you will visit the CDC and see two exhibits presently on display: The History of the CDC and The End of Polio. You also will tour the campus of Emory University with a stop at Emory's Conference Center for an overview of the Clifton Community redevelopment.

Downtown
Option 4: Changing Faces - Downtown Atlanta
Downtown Atlanta is the pulse of the metropolitan region. As the city laid its roots here in 1837, Downtown offers a significant stock of historic buildings and culture. Downtown has maintained its reputation as the largest concentration of office workers in the region with 140,000 employees. Major corporations have their national or regional headquarters here, including Georgia-Pacific, the Coca-Cola Company, Southern Company, Ernst & Young, SunTrust Bank, and the American Cancer Society. The area is also one of the top three convention destinations in the nation. Between conventioneers and tourists, Downtown Atlanta welcomes 12 million visitors on an annual basis. The area not only is home to the Georgia World Congress Center and the city's major convention hotels, but it also boasts a long list of attractions, including the World of Coca-Cola, CNN Center, Georgia Aquarium, Centennial Olympic Park, Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic Site, and all of the city's major sporting venues. In the past few years, Downtown Atlanta has been growing as a residential neighborhood as well. Now, with over 23,000 residents in almost 15,000 units, we expect Downtown to swell to almost 37,000 residents as soon as next year. Georgia State University's ever-growing presence has added life to Downtown's streets at all times of day with its 30,000 students. The completion of its new 2,000-bed dormitory building prepares the school for its upcoming mandate of underclassmen living on campus. Approximately $3.7 billion of investment is recently completed or planned to open before 2010, signaling the confidence in the residential, office, hospitality and cultural markets. We invite you to experience the vibrancy of Downtown Atlanta.
