Following the 1998 bombings of U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, The U.S. Department of State Overseas Buildings Operations launched a 15-plus year initiative to replace more than 80 percent of U.S. embassy and consulate facilities, developing methods to effectively conduct multiple searches for sites in many different countries simultaneously.
