Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China and the municipality is under the direct administration of the Central People's Government. The city is the political, cultural, scientific and educational hub of the country, as well as a major stage for international activities.

Located in the southern part of the North China plain and sprawling across 16,800 square kilometers of land, Beijing has an estimated population of 13 million.

Gearing up to host the 2008 Olympic games with 2005 marking the three year count down, Beijing is undergoing a facelift with the cityscape changing daily. Despite the skyline of cranes, the city is home to some of China's most stunning sights: the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven Park, the Lama Temple and the Great Wall, to name just a few.
