Noreena Hertz
Noreena Hertz MBA, PhD
Political Economist & Author

Responsible Globalisation

Multi-national corporations are expanding their reach around the world, creating new maps of influence and re-inventing market borders. This profound influence on communities, cultures and countries is rendering some governments less powerful, and creating an economic and political tension commonly described as "anti-globalisation."

In response, Noreena Hertz to proposes a compelling case for a new kind of business environment in which transparency and accountability will matter more - to employees, customers and shareholders. She outlines a new corporate paradigm based on sound economic principles and global/political observations. Her blueprint for financial accountability satisfies the same steadfast goals of profitability and success that all corporations strive to achieve.

Noreena Hertz was named by the World Economic Forum as one of their "Global Leaders of Tomorrow." Her career began in St. Petersburg where she helped establish the city's stock exchange and tutored Boris Yeltsin's advisors in market economics. After a period working as a consultant at the World Bank, she moved to the Middle East and led a team of 40 researchers exploring the roles the private sector might play in the peace process. Her books The Silent Takeover and The Debt Threat establish Noreena Hertz as one of the world's leading experts on economic globalisation.

Arrangements for the appearance of Noreena Hertz made through the Greater Talent Network, Inc., N.Y., N.Y. USA

Barry Varcoe
Barry Varcoe
Director, Group Property Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc

The Road to Innovation at RBS

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is one of the world's largest banks. In order to become a significant contributor to the continued development, expansion, and agility of the whole RBS Group, Barry Varcoe and the Group Workplace Operations team set out on a journey (2002) to construct a road to sustainable innovation.

Several key initiatives have effectively established and embedded the innovation culture in a short but energetic time frame. The group has created an Innovation Round Table for its key suppliers, launched a Workplace Innovation Centre at University College London, and implemented a Front of House service delivery model in 126 sites across the U.K. Taking inspiration from unusual sources (such as hospitality and education) and leveraging unusual tools (like lean manufacturing techniques and Innovation Champions) have resulted in a brand new map for infrastructure support at RBS.

For their work and success with the Embedded Culture of Innovation initiative at RBS, Barry Varcoe and his team were presented with the 2005 H. Bruce Russell Global Innovator's Award, honoring innovation in corporate and commercial real estate, workplace management, service delivery, and even public sector asset management.
