Tour 1
Transformation Success Stories:
The Navy Yard - A City Within a City

Many cities have military bases that have been, or are currently being closed or revitalized. Come tour a Philadelphia success story that has truly brought together federal and local, military and civilian, and public and private interests, reinventing a base as a 1,200-acre, mixed-use, sustainable development. Learn first hand about issues that need to be addressed and the time frames required for a successful transfer from the military. Experience the transformation of an industrial waterfront with restricted military access to a dynamic, historic campus that integrates shipbuilding, industrial, research and office uses with public waterfront access. See how retained military functions can be integrated with private uses to leverage expanded research and development by government, institutions and the private sector. Learn why companies as diverse as Aker Shipyards, AppTec Laboratory Services and Urban Outfitters call The Navy Yard home. This is a must-see experience for anyone interested in historic preservation, public-private partnerships and urban revitalization.

Citizens Bank Park Tour –
Home of the Philadelphia Phillies

Hop a bus to one of the newest baseball stadiums in the major league and get a behind the scene tour of the Phillies new home. The parks exterior combines the rich design traditions of the city along with modern style. Street level entrances lead directly to the airy main concourse and an open view to the field. With the Philadelphia city skyline as the backdrop, the new ballpark features "bowl-style" seating

with the playing field scooped out 23 feet below street level. The seating bowl layout is inspired by the classic plans of the Baker Bowl, home of the Phillies until 1938 and Connie Mack Stadium (formerly Shibe Park), which housed the team until 1971 when they moved into Veterans Stadium. Like Connie Mack Stadium, the upper and lower decks do not correspond exactly in plan. The cantilevered steel structure of the park allows for more open seating areas. We will be able to sit in the dug out and maybe catch a foul ball during batting practice. Come experience an afternoon at the Park.
