Daily Reports from the Philadelphia Summit

About 100 women gathered Sunday for the Women in CoreNet Global Networking Reception, held at the Marriott. The number of women in the industry is rapidly growing and CoreNet Global hosts these events to enable peer-to-peer networking.

The reception is part of an initiative that includes the annual Women in the Workplace conferences. Former board chair, Leslie Whatley, announced that the next such conference has been scheduled for 14-16 August, in Chicago. About 150 people gathered Sunday for the New Member Reception, held at the Marriott. New members were introduced to CoreNet Global board members, including chair Jeff Elie and incoming chair Mark Golan. CoreNet Global CEO, Dr. Prentice Knight, introduced staff members and others.

"I'm very impressed! I took part in the the Portfolio Management class today," enthused Earl Chase, Corporate Real Estate Manager for Hewlett Packard. "Naturally, I am exhausted but I'm looking forward to networking and the rest of the program."

Collette Hanna, Business Development Manager for the City of Victorville, Calif., was already familiar with CoreNetg Global, but recently decided to join the organization. "I attended as a visitor and saw the value of being involved," she explained. "Membership gives me the opportunity to be involved to a greater level."

CoreNet Global Summits are intended to facilitiate networking among the membership, and provide a venue for educational opportunities, which advances the profession and the people in it. But, the events also allow our host cities to show us what they’ve got. And, Philadelphia did just that Sunday night!

Philadelphia and Pennsylvania opened the Grand Hall Sunday evening for a spectacular Opening Gala. Dozens of local restaurants participated in the event, as well as local entertainers and business leaders. Gambling, boxing, and live music were part of the extravaganza.

The event not only showcased the city’s long history, but Philadelphia's current vibrancy and bright future played a big part in the festivities as well.  – Megan McCann
