New Member Reception
New CoreNet Global members received a warm greeting at the New Members Reception. Board members, Chapter Leaders and Staff were all on hand to greet new members and make them feel welcome to the San Diego Summit. Key leaders spoke briefly as they welcomed the new members.
David Harris, Chairman of the Board, officially welcomed the group saying that this was the beginning of an amazing journey, providing CoreNet Global members with access to knowledge of peers and colleagues, publications such as LEADER Magazine, the Knowledge Center Online, and the new State of the Industry Report. He concluded, "The Summit is a great place to begin this journey."
Barry Varcoe, Chair Elect, spoke of the benefit he has received through his membership over the years. His message to the new members was to think of joining CoreNet Global as similar to joining a gym. You pay your dues to join, but you must turn up and use the equipment to enjoy the benefits. "The more you put into it, the more you get back - much like at the gym."
Prentice Knight, CEO, added that members are the lifeblood of CoreNet Global. He introduced the group to Board Members and staff. He then recognized long-term members who were present. Bill Moran, a member of almost 30 years was recognized as the member with the longest continuous membership.
Next in line to add his welcome was Mark Tamburro, incoming Chairman of the Board, adding that one of his goals is to increase membership globally. He emphasized the ability to network that CoreNet Global provides.
Following the official welcome, Lauren Mountain, VP of Membership, launched a networking game, based on Bingo. New members filled out their "Bingo" cards with the initials of key members, service providers, end users, economic developers, and of course Prentice Knight, CEO. Completed cards were all put into a large bowl and four winners were drawn, each winning $50 AMEX gift cards. Winners were: Lisa Rogers, United Health Group; John Marshall, Cushman & Wakefield; Fred Fatemi, EDT Group, Inc.; and Josh Gould, RNL. The game produced a lively interchange, and the buzz of conversations and networking filled the room as new members made their way through the crowd of 100+ attendees, beginning their CoreNet Global Summit experience.
