Downtown Toronto Development Tour:
From the Core to the Lake
Downtown Toronto

Join us for a tour of new and proposed developments in Toronto’s downtown core and lakeshore area. Begin with a walking tour around the South Convention Centre area and Skydome, the first stadium with a retractable roof. Via the elevated skywalk, journey into Union Station to discover how major renovation plans will transform this rail transportation hub into a state-of-the-art transit and retail service centre. Walk from Union Station through the Air Canada Centre, home of the NHL Maple Leafs and NBA Raptors. From the Air Canada Centre, we take a tour of the Toronto waterfront and port lands area. We will hear experts discuss waterfront redevelopment plans on a land/water cruise around the Toronto lakeshore and port.

MaRS Centre
MaRS Centre

MaRS Discovery District is focused on building the next generation of global companies from Canada’s foundation of science and technology innovation. To that end, MaRS is creating both a physical (MaRS Centre) and virtual space (MaRS portal) that connects scientists, entrepreneurs, business leaders and investors to create a more efficient commercialization marketplace. Phase One of the eventual 1.4-million-sq.-ft MaRS Centre will be opening in May 2005. This tour will give participants an opportunity to preview the facility which integrates a historic heritage building with state-of-the-art wet labs and Class A office space, and is designed to maximize interaction and collaboration. Located in Toronto’s downtown Discovery District, MaRS is the epicentre of one of North America’s most concentrated clusters of biomedical research and expertise.

Bombardier Aerospace

BombardierBombardier Aerospace is a world leader in the design and manufacture of innovative aviation products and services for the business, regional and amphibious markets. During your factory tour, you will see the assembly lines for Bombardier's Q Series turboprop aircraft and the Global family of business jets. The Q400 is an extraordinary modern technology turboprop, offering airlines exceptional economics with jet speed and comfort in the 70-seat market. The Global Express XRS and the Global 5000 are luxurious corporate jets.

Liberty Village – From Bread to Bandwidth
Liberty Village

Liberty Village is a vibrant urban area enjoying an exciting renewal. It is a former industrial and manufacturing area only 15 minutes from Toronto’s downtown core. While the early 20th century heritage buildings have been converted to modern office and commercial spaces, the surrounding brownfield lands are undergoing high-density residential development.

Commercial tenants include Toronto’s leading creative thinkers in the high tech, arts, design, entertainment and media businesses. The area is officially zoned to permit high-tech businesses, resulting in more fibre optic bandwidth supply within Liberty Village than within any other neighbourhood in Canada. This, in combination with Canada Bread as one of the area’s last true industrial operations, supports the fitting description of the area having an uncommon mix of bread and bandwidth. The tour will include an outside look at the mix of old and new, and an inside look at the Toronto Carpet Factory (TCF), recognized internationally for adaptively reusing a historic building to support a community of networked, forward thinking businesses.
